Position Description:

CGI Federal is seeking a Safety & Occupational Health Specialist to support the FBI Engineering Research Facility. The Safety & Occupational Health Specialist will provide informal instruction to employees covering a variety of safety and occupational health subjects, including chemical, biological and physical safety, and various laboratory safety needs and ventilation requirements.

OTD is a large organization, headquartered on the United States Marine Corps (USMC) campus in Quantico, Virginia. Due to OTD’s large size which includes multiple buildings both on and off the USMS base, and OTD’s large personnel compliment, a dedicated, full time, MA IV/OHSS is required. This individual will serve as one of the divisional representatives to ensure all aspects of the program including those involving personnel, physical space, fire, electrical, hazardous materials, environmental, inspection, reporting, communications, and liaison are observed.

Your future duties and responsibilities
a) Must possess an active Top Secret security clearance.

b) Must efficiently and effectively provide knowledgeable support and analytical services to the Safety Office, and components/collateral duty representatives relative to mission operations for the FBI’s OTD.

c) Performs routine and non-routine assignments of substantial variety and complexity, using operational precedents and requirements which are permanent or temporary in nature and often non-standard. Such assignments, which are typically parts of broader assignments, are screened to eliminate unusual design problems. Receives technical advice from supervisor or engineering personnel where work is reviewed for technical adequacy, conformity with instructions, and existing laws and regulations. May be assisted by lower level technicians and have frequent contact with professionals and others within the establishment. May also plan such assignments.

d) Possess a thorough knowledge and understanding of Occupational Health and Safety Standards, OSHA, EPA/DEQ regulations and reporting requirements. Assists FBI Safety Manager in identifying, developing and implementing plans to manage building health, safety and environmental issues. Evaluates health and safety concerns and obtains timely responses and follow-up to questions through personal contact, customer requests, inspections and service calls. Adheres to all federal, state and local safety regulations/directives as well as, relevant FBI program policy.

e) Performs office functions, record keeping, and compiling of environmental information requests and reports. Must be efficient in FBI Microsoft Office Suite products. Coordinates safety training classes and distributes updates to staff. Compiles storm water management reports, fuel storage tank inspection records, hazardous waste disposal and EPA reports, and others as required by FBI policy or Federal mandate.

f) Conducts periodic inspections of building structures, components, and grounds and identifies deficiencies and or potential safety problems and makes recommendations to supervisor for resolution.

g) Completes necessary reports as directed by FBI program management personnel. In doing so, must be an effective oral and written communicator. Ensures that all correspondence and reports are submitted in a timely manner as needed to perform assigned tasks. Ensures that all required time sheets, leave requests, etc. are submitted on time.

h) Takes care to ensure appropriate safety clothing and equipment is worn and used in performance of work. Requests and completes all needed and required training to enhance job performance and meet safety requirements.

i) Performs as a team member working cooperatively, to contribute to an effective, pleasant work environment. In doing so, works effectively with OTD’s units and collateral duty health and safety personnel, the Facilities and Logistics Services Division’s Occupational Safety and Environmental Programs Unit, and USMC health and safety representatives.

j) Must maintain a clean and organized work area. Business casual appearance is appropriate.
