Position Description:

Where were you when the first Galileo navigation satellites went into orbit, or when the European Philae probe landed on a comet? We can tell you where we were – right in the middle.

For more than 40 years, CGI has supported the planning and implementation of national and international space missions worldwide with reliable systems, innovative solutions and qualified experts.

If you would like to be part of this, then join us and support our project teams in the SPACE division as a software developer (m/f/d).

We are seeking talented junior and experienced software engineers to further strengthen our team and help us deliver software services and solutions to our clients and partners, supporting both the routine operations of flying satellites and the development of complex new Ground Segment systems. In particular, we are looking for developers and engineers who can support our clients within ESA’s satellite operations centre (ESOC) with the development, validation and deployment of EGOS-CC (ESA’s new generation mission control systems based on EGS-CC) and it’s related software infrastructure.

Within Germany we have multi-national teams based in Darmstadt and Bochum.

Your future duties and responsibilities:

Depending on your experience, ambition and ability you will take on one or more roles within our Ground Segment Software Engineering team, working in an interdisciplinary team and often in close cooperation with our clients. This may be a technical leadership role, being part of an in-house or client-based development team or supporting business development and helping to generate new commercial opportunities for CGI.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:

Those qualified for the role will be proactive, natural problem solvers and comfortable working both independently and as part of a team. You will thrive on solving complex tasks in a challenging environment and enjoy supporting your colleagues.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role include:

• at least 1-2 years of experience working in software development with knowledge of formal software test and validation processes
• knowledge about the Space sector and satellite operations
• fluency in English (written / spoken)
• experience working with EGS-CC and/or EGOS-CC or related systems
• some awareness of space industry standards such as ECSS and CCSDS
• familiarity with service oriented architecture
• familiarity with working in a Linux environment
• experience working with continuous integration tools
• experience in Java (preferably Java 8)
• familiarity with OSGi and related tools (e.g. Apahce Karaf, Eclipse Equinox)
• familiarity with testing frameworks (e.g. JUnit, TestNG, Mockito)
• experience working with Git version control
• ability to interpret and write technical documents such as requirements, design documentation and test documentation
• experience of SCOS-2000, or other commercial, institutional or open source mission control system platforms, or in ground station monitoring & control systems can be beneficial to understand our client’s operations but not essential
