Position Description:

This is a great opportunity to lead technical teams in the development, implementation and support of IT solutions for CGI in Vancouver, B.C. This position will be responsible for providing technical oversight to maintenance teams to ensure that standards and procedures are followed. This role will also be responsible for suggesting improvements to procedures and tool sets. Finally, it will be important for this role to not only understand the technology but also be able to coordinate, manage and lead technical resources.

We're looking for a hands-on technologist with strong communication and technical skills that is smart, analytical, passionate and innovative and will take ownership of their projects and see them through to completion. OS: Unix/Linux, Windows, shell scripting
Front End: HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, JQuery, Adobe CQ
Java: Java, JEE, SpringMVC, Struts, JPA, MyBatis
Middle Tier: JBoss EAP, Glassfish, JMS, ESB, Web Services(SOAP and REST)
Database: Oracle PL/SQL

You must have a strong and demonstrated aptitude for technology, supported by extensive and diverse experience, including hands-on experience. Your technical responsibilities will span the domains of technology architecture, application design, development, application support and infrastructure support, providing overall technical guidance and direction to project development teams.

This job is for people who enjoy the excitement of troubleshooting with great analysis skills. You will focus on providing leadership with respect to technology, design and development, production deployment, and also provide expert technical input and guidance to development and infrastructure design teams.

Your future duties and responsibilities:

• Provide leadership with incident, problem and change management.
• Provide expert guidance in all areas including operating system, middleware and database technologies, and to become familiar with the particular application components in play.
• Provide strong technical guidance and leadership, both from a theoretical and hands-on perspective to project team members (including client representatives).
• Build and manage teams that collaboratively work well with each other as well as other teams (e.g. architecture, business analysts, project management).
• Facilitate communication within projects, across CGI technical teams and with the client to ensure all stakeholder expectations are managed correctly.
• Provide leadership in the promotion and deployment of fixes and major releases into production environments.
• Provide technical and logistical leadership during all phases of change planning and change management. Draw on extensive technical experience to understand change implications from a broad technical perspective, adding a ‘big picture’ view to the discussions.
• Be an agent for change in the environment. Proactively identify opportunities to improve the environment from both a technical and process perspective. Work with the technical teams to finalize the recommendations, and take this to management and other stake holders for approval. Working with the Tier II and Tier III technical teams, plan, implement and participate in the support of the solutions.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:

• 10+ years of progressive Enterprise Applications Development experience
• 8+ years of successful experience as a leader and subject matter expert in the development, deployment and support of IT applications
• Thoroughly versed in SDLC concepts and practices, particularly as it relates to promotion and deployment of routine fixes and major releases into a production environment
• Vast technical skills including a solid and broad range of experience in web development technologies, production deployments and include the design, implementation and hands-on support of 7x24 mission critical multi-tier environments.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Post-secondary education in a relevant discipline or equivalent combination of education and work experience


• Strong organization and leadership skills with the ability to facilitate technical sessions and perform mentoring for less senior team members
• Capable of communicating complex technical information to a non-technical audience and of communicating structured production process requirements to a technical audience
• Demonstrated client facing skills
• Demonstrated ability to rapidly develop expertise in new/different technologies, through hands-on, real-time, on the fly exposure and involvement
• Knowledge of current and emerging User Interface design standards
• Knowledge of object oriented programming techniques and paradigms
• Active, enthusiastic team player who works well within a team and creates productive environments

Nice to Have

• Experience in the Professional Services and/or Government and/or Utilities industries
• Linux / UNIX System Administration
• Solid grasp of ITIL (certification encouraged)
