CGI has a challenging and rewarding career opportunity for a Senior Java Developer, for a permanent position in Victoria, BC. This role will allow you to provide leading IT services to our local clients, working in a team setting that provides you the opportunity to expand your capabilities and grow your career. We are seeking a Java Developer with a minimum of 10 years development experience with at least 6 years of progressive Java development experience.

In this role, you will work as a Team Lead or Lead Developer, guiding and mentoring team members to design and build new Java applications and enhance existing applications using J2EE and related technologies. This position suits a dynamic software developer with a proven track record in delivering quality applications - a leader who can provide first-rate customer service using excellent written and oral communication in a demanding Information Technology environment.

Your future duties and responsibilities:

• Translate business requirements into logical designs
• Define physical designs and produces detailed design documentation
• Lead team by defining and allocating technical tasks to developers
• Ensure the team follows expected standards and processes when writing, testing and migrating code
• Code, document changes, follow established processes, perform and document unit and system testing
• Provide leadership in the promotion and deployment of fixes and major releases across environments
• Facilitate communication within projects, across CGI technical teams and with the client to ensure all stakeholder expectations are managed correctly.
• Analyze and evaluate the technological impacts of improvements to highly complex applications
• Work closely with the client and business analyst to ensure business and technical needs are met and additional needs are identified and addressed
• Employ strong communication and presentation skills with the client and project team members
• Produce and or review estimates from developers
• Mentor junior resources
• Provide leadership with incident, problem and change management
• Be an agent for change in the environment - proactively identify opportunities to improve the environment from both a technical and process perspective.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:


• 10+ years of progressive applications development experience (6 of which are related to Java)
• 6+ years of successful experience as a leader and subject matter expert in the development, deployment and support of IT applications
• Thoroughly versed in SDLC concepts and practices, particularly as it relates to promotion and deployment of routine fixes and major releases into a production environment
• Vast technical skills including a solid and broad range of experience in Java development technologies, production deployments and include the design, implementation and hands-on support of 7x24 mission critical multi-tier environments.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Post-secondary education in a relevant discipline or equivalent work experience

• Java, JSF, PrimeFaces, EJB, JPA, Netbeans, MVC Patterns
• Spring
• Hibernate
• JavaScript
• WebServices (SOAP or Restful)
• Oracle SQL, SQL Loader, PL/SQL
• Shell Scripting skills, (Bash preferred)
• Windows and Unix/Linux (Solaris preferred)

Desired skills:

• Development IDEs NetBeans or Eclipse
• JavaScript - JQuery, Angular JS
• Sparx Enterprise Architect
• Automated testing frameworks including Junit
• Technical Writing
• Apache Tomcat Server
• Oracle WebLogic Server
• Working knowledge of JEE based authentication and authorization models
• Java and/or other related certifications
